You know, when it comes to animals I think that we all can agree we have soft spots.
It can be wild or domestic, some can really steel a piece of you. Admit it, the last time you saw a happy Polar Bear you wanted to give it a big hug. Now obviously you would not, but all critters have a way of turning some type of human mushie switch.
At the Wolf Ranch, Wendi and I have horses. Now even though they do not live in the house, they are still are are pet's, part of our family. We care for them as you would care for anyone or anything. Most of the time you take care of them better than you take care yourself.
So on two levels the video about Staff Sgt. Reckless hits for me on two levels. Staff Sgt. Reckless was a brave and very smart military horse. One of Gods amazing critters, that makes your heart melt.
This horse was a pack horse during the Korean war, and she carried recoil-less rifles, ammunition and supplies to Marines. Nothing too unusual about that, lots of animals got pressed into doing pack chores in many wars. But this horse did something more. Duing the battle for a location called Outpost Vegas, this mare made 50 trips up and down the hill, on the way up she carried ammunition, and on the way down she carried wounded soldiers. What was so amazing? Well she made every one of those trips without anyone leading her.
The video is a few minutes long, so give yourself the time to watch it.
